ABOUT THE DILLON EARTH DAY FESTIVAL

The Earth Day Festival in Dillon dates to as early as 1995 when University of Montana Western (UMW) students belonging to Terra Verde began gathering to pick up trash around the community and celebrate Earth Day.  The Festival became a joint project with the City of Dillon in 2014 and has expanded to include an increasing number of displays and demonstrations as part of the celebration.  Support from local businesses, organizations and citizens has grown significantly as well and today is a fine example of "Town-Gown" cooperation.

The Festival currently consists of about equal parts cleanup and celebration. The cleanup is conducted in the morning with volunteers registering and receiving garbage bags and an area to pick up trash.  The celebration follows in the afternoon with displays and demonstrations, food, entertainment and speakers on offer.
