The Dillon Cleanup and Earth Day Celebration committee met on
October 24, 2016 to begin planning for the 2017 event. Topics
discussed included the date for the event, general organization,
committees, the account balance and budget and the vision for the
event.
The event date was set for Saturday, April 22, 2017 (coincidentally
Earth Day).
It was agreed the facilitator/coordinator and communications
responsibilities would be split this year. Leaf Magnuson will
assume the role of meeting facilitator and event coordinator (in
conjunction with Terra Verde) while Ed Mooney will focus on
communication through email and the web site.
Some possible committees include:
* Fundraising/Donations/Raffle, etc.
* Food
* Entertainment
* Venue Setup (tent, tables, chairs, etc.)
* Publicity
* Cleanup Operation (registration, map, etc.)
Thoughts shared for the vision included maintaining a
family-friendly orientation and possibly increasing the educational
component. Ideas were also floated for improving the cleanup
operation, ticket pricing and handling of large in-kind donations
like the big-screen TV last year, and support for participating
organizations' displays.
The next meeting is set for 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, November
30, 2016 at the UMW Block Hall, Terra Verde Room (NW End,
downstairs). Items on the agenda will include:
* Current UMW Earth Day fund balance report
* Budget including 2016 advertising
* The title and vision for the event (focus, activities, etc.)
* Committees
